Windows XP Virtual Machine "Unable to log on because of an account restriction" as Administrator
I got virtual machine today and just finished downloading some software that required a reboot. Earlier before the reboot, I wanted to remove my password I had set for the account so I went to user properties in control panel and changed my password to nothing. Problem is that now when i try to log back into it I receive "Unable to log on because of an account restriction" although I am the admin to the console. Does anybody know how I can work around this login/reset my password? I can't get into the machine at all. I'm merely stuck at login. And there is no safe mode F8 command on bootup for virtuals, I've already tried that. Thanks in advance.1 person got this answerI do too

Alright, so I managed to fix it myself. For the sake of everybody else, go to your Virtual Machines folder (search for it in the start menu if you can't find it) And ONLY if you've built your mode off of a previous virtual disk (such as Virtual XPV HD) and still have access to that file, delete your virtual machine. From that same folder. Then create a new machine with the virtual disk file mentioned before when prompted, and run it. When it comes to administrator, you won't have a password and it will log you right through. Now before you close make sure you change your password to an actual password to avoid this. If you followed this as instructed, you should have most, if not all, of your files back and regained control of the console. Hope this helps. :)-Scalise

actually putting in an admin password on a virtualized windows is redundant, since the virtual machine cannot be started by anyone who couldnt log into your system in the first place. in any case, my suggestion is to make a folder and store copies of the virtual machine vmc and vhd files. that way if the working vhd file crashes, you can simply replace it with a copy and it will keep you from rebuilding a virtualized xp. -- db`...><)))> ."Scalise" wrote in message news:3e264bba-e65d-481a-9be1-4a216860ac8d...Alright, so I managed to fix it myself.
